Teodora Sena Ducariu was born in June 1986 in Brasov, Romania and received her first piano lessons, from her mother the renowned pianist Sena Ducariu. At the age of 8, she heard the famous flutist James Galway and decided to play the flute. A few years later at the age of 14, she performed her first flute recital. Teodora began her flute studies in Brasov at the “Tudor Ciortea” College of Music and continued studying at the National University of Music “Ciprian Porumbescu” in Bucharest, Romania. In the same year, she followed another passion and enrolled at the Academy of Economics in Bucharest, the Faculty of Business Administration in English. She graduated from both universities in 2008.
Since September 2013, she has been studying flute with Prof. Sarah Rumer, Magda Schwerzmann, Charles Aeschlimann and Anne - Laure Pantillon and piccolo with Nicola Mazzanti at the Hochschule für Musik in Lucerne, Switzerland. In January 2017 she ended her Master studies, with specialties in Orchestra and Pedagogy. During her studies, Teodora Ducariu received scholarships from the Hirschmann Foundation, the C. und A. Kupper Foundation, and Konservatorium Dreillinden.
She has had the privilege to benefit from the guidance of several famous flutists, such as Sir James Galway, Benoît Fromanger, Mario Caroli, Pirmin Grehl, Pierre Yves-Artaud, Sophie Cherrier, Janos Balint, Patricia Morris, Christina Fassbender and Juliet Hurel.
Since her early teens, she has performed as a soloist with the following Romanian orchestras: the Brasov Philharmonic Orchestra, Paul Constantinescu Philharmonic Orchestra, Giurgiu Philharmonic Orchestra. She has also performed as a flutist and piccolo player in the Romanian Youth Orchestra, the National Radio Orchestra, the George Enescu Philharmonic and the Orchestra of the Romanian Opera.
An important step in her career was made in February 2012 when she had the chance to gain the position of the Assistant to the Artistic Director of the Sergiu Celibidache Festival in Romania, under the presidency of Serge Ioan Celebidachi and Adela Vranceanu. This position gave her the opportunity to develop her artistic and management skills and the chance to work with artists of international music environment.
Teodora Ducariu currently lives in Switzerland where she continues to develop her career, where she plays solo and chamber music concerts, as part of a duo with either piano, harp or guitar and as a trio with violoncello and piano and many others. She is the founder of the “Alpha Duo”, a duo flute – piano with her sister, the pianist Alexandra Ducariu. They perform recitals with different themes, in an effort to promote in the same time the Romanian, Swiss and Italian music. In addition to her concert activity, Teodora dedicates herself to teaching and building educational music projects for children and adults.
